Pavan Henna @ Selfridges

Whilst I was up in London a couple of weeks ago I also popped into the Selfridges Beauty Workshop (very quickly becoming one my fave places!) to visit the lovely ladies of Pavan Henna and to get my first ever henna tattoo done!

Henna is really growing in popularity here in the UK, with demand being particularly high at the this time of year for celebrations such as Eid taking place and also henna being used for festivals is quite popular now also. I was really excited to give henna a try!

Henna tattoos are created by henna artists who draw on the design to your skin with traditional henna paste with clove oil and eucalyptus oil to enhance the colour. These ladies are really talented at what they do and can create either a design of your choice or if you are unsure of what you want you can get totally lost in their henna design book of designs they have done before.. choosing which one you want can be difficult as they are all soo nice! so would advice to do your research and have an idea in mind.

At the Pavan Henna bar they have a henna menu which includes henna trails (a design that can go from your fingers to just past your wrist), ankle, full arm or full hand. They also sell temporary tattoos, bindis and stick on gems or you can buy henna cones from them if you fancy trying to do your own henna designs!

henna cones, bindis and temporary tattoos
I wanted something custom for my first design so I went with a traditional design around my wrist, which then turned abit azteccy with a pyramid, shield and crescent moon with some european style flowers on the fingers,

The clay stuff tingles abit when its on for a few minutes and then once dry hardens and then easily comes off to reveal the tattoo underneath!

Visit Pavan Henna in Selfridges Beauty Workshop. or if you want to see some of their henna designs follow their instagram page

Rat & Boa

Grey Ribbed Knit Crop // Missguided

Tribal Style Long Bead Choker // Primark
Skinny Jeans // Primark
Metallic Silver Sneakers // New Look

Soo I'm back after my very busy long weekend away at the British F1 GP (photos to follow up in due course!) my first experience camping with today being my first full day back n feel like I have the Glasto flu as I've heard it described from fellow festival gowers/friends who are experienced at the camping thing. In other words, I am completely exhausted from next to no sleep and feeling the effects after eating nothing but bacon butties and burgers for 3 days straight...lovely! :) never been so happy to see a plate of veggies for dinner when I got back, and no I'm not vegetarian!

Annywayyy, The day before I headed up to Silverstone I went to London to visit the Braid Bar again who now have their stand permanently there now after their trial period began back in March (you can read about my first visit to the Braid Bar here) and got a Eva braid which is like one sidey cornrows.

I also thought I'd do some exploring whilst I was there so I went all touristy and sat down in St James Park for a while, just next to The Mall and shot this incredible tie dye kimono from Rat & Boa.

I knew my main summer piece I wanted this summer was a tie dye kimono but kept finding short ones, ones that were just abit too long or I wasn't keep on the colours but this one was just what I was looking for and I bought it for myself for my birthday a couple of months ago.Rat & Boa is def a brand u wanna keep ur eyes on in future!

As well as the online store, they also sell through Asos too :) check them out!

The Braid Bar

Location: The Braid Bar, Selfridges, London

So yesterday I headed up to Londaaaan specially to visit The Braid Bar! I saw pics of the lovely ladies from The Braid Bar doing hair at the the Missguided SS15 press day event and had to google them to find out more about them and see where I could find them and stumbled across there website.

They don't have a permanent home at the moment as they are mainly doing events and are trying to get in to department stores or they did mention seeing if they could take up residence in the flagship Topshop further down Oxford Street. Right now and for this weekend, they are in my fave department store Selfridges!

Its a really cool relaxed atmosphere, where you can choose from the braid menu which include the Cara - a gorge side braid, the Gisele - a traditional fishtail braid, the Kate - a pretty heart shaped braid around the top of your head or you can go the whole hog and get a Beyoncee - a head full of cornrows! There are so many styles to choose from I actually didn't decide until I was on my way up on the train cus I couldn't decide!

Being a total braiding dunce who can't plait for toffee, I wanted something really different that would get my whole hair braided rather than play it safe with a half up half down style. I opted for the Tyra which as you can see in the pics is a tri-braid which you can have in a french or dutch braid style (I chose Dutch) splitting your parting in to three then meeting at the back.

You can also choose to customise your braid with charms, rings, glitter or hair chalks as I wasn't going out for the eve glitter seemed abit pointless so I went for a pink hair chalk and added the Regal Rose rings for a punky edgy look!

The staff were really lovely and chatty and I was really happy with the end result. I hope that the Braid Bar does get a permanent home be it in Selfridges or Topshop so I can go again and try out even more of the braids. Its a godsend for anyone else like me who can't plait or braid to save their lives!  I am gonna try and keep this braid in for the whole weekend and style it up different ways over the next couple of days! Check out my Instagram feed to see how I style it up!

The Braid Bar is open for this weekend only but may (hopefully!) extend to a couple more weekends this month due to popular demand. Make sure you book before you go as although you are welcome to drop in they cannot guarantee someone will be free at the time u arrive! :)
