The Braid Bar

Location: The Braid Bar, Selfridges, London

So yesterday I headed up to Londaaaan specially to visit The Braid Bar! I saw pics of the lovely ladies from The Braid Bar doing hair at the the Missguided SS15 press day event and had to google them to find out more about them and see where I could find them and stumbled across there website.

They don't have a permanent home at the moment as they are mainly doing events and are trying to get in to department stores or they did mention seeing if they could take up residence in the flagship Topshop further down Oxford Street. Right now and for this weekend, they are in my fave department store Selfridges!

Its a really cool relaxed atmosphere, where you can choose from the braid menu which include the Cara - a gorge side braid, the Gisele - a traditional fishtail braid, the Kate - a pretty heart shaped braid around the top of your head or you can go the whole hog and get a Beyoncee - a head full of cornrows! There are so many styles to choose from I actually didn't decide until I was on my way up on the train cus I couldn't decide!

Being a total braiding dunce who can't plait for toffee, I wanted something really different that would get my whole hair braided rather than play it safe with a half up half down style. I opted for the Tyra which as you can see in the pics is a tri-braid which you can have in a french or dutch braid style (I chose Dutch) splitting your parting in to three then meeting at the back.

You can also choose to customise your braid with charms, rings, glitter or hair chalks as I wasn't going out for the eve glitter seemed abit pointless so I went for a pink hair chalk and added the Regal Rose rings for a punky edgy look!

The staff were really lovely and chatty and I was really happy with the end result. I hope that the Braid Bar does get a permanent home be it in Selfridges or Topshop so I can go again and try out even more of the braids. Its a godsend for anyone else like me who can't plait or braid to save their lives!  I am gonna try and keep this braid in for the whole weekend and style it up different ways over the next couple of days! Check out my Instagram feed to see how I style it up!

The Braid Bar is open for this weekend only but may (hopefully!) extend to a couple more weekends this month due to popular demand. Make sure you book before you go as although you are welcome to drop in they cannot guarantee someone will be free at the time u arrive! :)

60's Mod

Check Grid Print Dress - Select - http://www.selectfashion.co.uk/gridprintdress
Scunci Vintage Fringe Roller - http://www.claires.co.uk/vintage-fringe-roll-by-scunci
Red Patent Heels - Marks & Spencer http://www.marksandspencer.com/

I'm lovin that monochrome has come back in with a bang for AW14, this time with a more 60's Mod vibe.

Can you believe that this quirky black & white grid print dress is only £12 from Select?! Hello bargain!

I love it because of its double layer style, which instantly makes it super flattering if your in the small boob club as as the crop top part draws all the attention to your waist :D
I bought a tropical print crop dress in the summer which remains one of my favorite purchases this year so I'm really glad that it looks like these crop dresses are here to stay!

I also spotted a fringe roller in Claire's a couple of weekends ago which is made by Scunci, who make loads of other DIY hair kits for those of us who are crap at putting hair up without getting hair loops whilst trying to pull hair in a bun or unable to plait your hair because you somehow end up with your own fingers caught in to your braids - shamelessly guilty of both of these!

I've been itching to figure out how to get more vintagey hairstyles without forking out for a hairdresser everytime so I picked one up and gave it a try. I found it a little bit fiddly at first but managed to get it working in about 15 mins yay! :) It actually worked better if you rolled it up the opposite way the instructions said! typo maybe???

Definitely check these out and persist with them, there pretty cool. Now theirs a whole vintage range of these, I think I'll pop back and get the victory roll kit next and start collecting them all.

A summer evening in Covent Garden

Hair - Ministry of Hair - Eastbourne - http://www.ministryofhair.com
Embellished Maxi Dress - Little Mistress - http://www.little-mistress.co.uk/orange-pink-contrast-embellished-mesh-maxi-dress

Lots of newness going on at the mo! New blog, new name, new hair & obvs new dress!

I enlisted some help in the way of Maria from Rainy Day Blog Designs to build up a new template as I can't code to save my life! she's really lovely and really helpful, if your looking for blog help and a new design she's great :) you can purchase the templates you want through her shop on Etsy.

Today, I spent the morning at Ministry of Hair getting my fringe sorted. I haven't had a hair cut in two years due to moneys wanting to see how long I could grow it and become a proper mermaid with dip dyed hair n stuff. Turns out my hair struggles to grow much past my shoulders. boo.

This time we bleached the front a la Rogue x-men stylee as its something I've been wanting to do for ages but been to chicken to do so thought I'd go to my fave salon in Eastbourne, Ministry of Hair, to give it abit of a long overdue makeover! Again going on about lovely people and good service, I couldn't recommend Ministry more highly and will continue to go there as I have for the last 5 years.

Then me and zee boy headed off to Covent Garden where we went to Fire and Stone Pizza for dinner and then off the the Lyceum Theatre to see the Lion King which was amazing. Costumes are beautiful and we were lucky to get pretty good seats, will def go and see it again!.

On to this Little Mistress dress, I featured it in my top maxi summer shortlist and I said I would get it as I loved it - and I did! I have had to return the size 8 as it was really long and get a 6 instead, its still abit long but I'll get it adjusted, it fits better up top as well as a size 6. Perfect for a summer wedding or evening do as its fully lined and heavy. maybe not for holiday as I planned due to its heavyness but I will def keep it for a formal occasion.
